Romanian Army Brown Leather Service Belt
Romania was technically a Warsaw Pact member, but it was the kind of member that stood in front of 100,000 people and called the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia a grave error.
The Romanian People's Army served the Socialist Republic of Romania from 1947 until the revolution of December 1989. At its peak in 1984 it fielded 270,000 active personnel, making it the second largest Warsaw Pact ground force after Poland. When the rest of the Pact invaded Czechoslovakia in August 1968, Romania refused to send a single soldier. Ceaușescu delivered a public speech before 100,000 people in Palace Square in Bucharest condemning the operation as a serious danger to peace in Europe, the most defiant act by any Warsaw Pact leader against Moscow during the Cold War. While other Pact armies bought only from the Soviets, Romania quietly sourced weapons from the US, UK, France, Israel, and China, and invested heavily in building its own domestic arms industry. This belt is a product of that same independent spirit.
